Episode 7 - Why and How with Troy Thompson and Wess Anderson

Wess Anderson (WA )+ Troy Thompson (TT) = WATT (Electric)
Have you ever wondered “What am I working towards?”.   You get up, go to work, write some insurance, service some clients, shut the lights off, then go home.  Never really having a goal or a sense of accomlishment, just going through the motions.

Well, you’re not alone. In fact, I’m pretty sure we’ve all been there.  No real plan…no real goal…just owning a job and working to pay the bills.  In this Episode we don’t answer your why question for you…that’s up to you.  We discuss the how.  The tools we use to get us to the goal.  Join us.

Welcome to Episode 7

Wess was a liiiiiiile late so Troy’s beautiful wife Sarah joined us for the first 20 minutes until Wessly Anderson decided to grace us with his presence.

All joking aside though, one of the things I have learned along the way is that you want to be the dumbest person in the room, NOT the smartest.  I constantly feel that way so I don’t know if I’ve done a great job of accomplishing this or if I need to step up my game, BUT this episode gives you an inside look into a few products and methods Troy, Wess and I use to be more productive and more efficient.

A few things that were apparent to me in this conversation are that Wess loves his VAs, Troy married up and we ALL love the program Slack.

My 2 biggest takeaways from this interview are:

  • The best tool/product/software for ANY job is the one that is going to get used.  If you have staff, it’s more important that they buy into what you select more than if you like it.  In most cases they are the ones that are going to be using it daily.
  • Everyone has different goals and that’s okay.  Your goal right now might be to make a million dollars a year.  My goal might be to get more time with my family…and that’s okay too.  As longs as you’re working toward your idea of success you’re winning.

“In my mid 40’s you won’t find me.  For 2 years i’m just going to be gone and I’m going to spend every second with my family.” – Wess Anderson (AgencyVA)
